I am permanently certified in New York State to teach Biology and general science. In addition, I am pursuing certificates in both physics and math.
I like to combine both direct instruction and hands-on activities when teaching. I believe that allowing students to apply their learning to real-life situations helps them to both find meaning in their learning and attach the learning to a memorable experience. My first career was as a Registered Professional Nurse (NYS licensure) for 25 years. During those years, I kept up my interest in various fields of math, such as Abstract Algebra, Differential equations, and topology. I was especially interested in algebraically-capable computer math programs. I,eventually, went back to school for my Mathematics degree as part of a long-standing interest in and commitment to Mathematics. I presently teach students who are "at risk" in the 7th through 12th grades and have done so for the last 10-11 years at OHM-BOCES. I have been a full time tutor for the SUNY Research Foundation for four years and have tutored students in grades 6-9 in the areas of english,history,math and science.I am presently located at the Fort Plain High School with the research foundation program.Before this, I was a substitute teacher for three years in the following areas:math, science, english and history. This was also at the high school level.
