My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Phonics is critical to excellent reading. Children are being taught minimal phonics and the focus is on sight reading/ whole language. The issue is that children are being taught to remember what words look like rather than knowing how to use sound and rules to reading in order to figure out words. Children are often guessing words wrong because a word looks similar to another word. I will use, "Phonics Pathways" to teach your child phonics. It is sometimes a challenge re-teaching a child to use sounds rather than the whole language method.

I prefer a hybrid teaching style. If a standard teaching style was working for the student then they most likely would not need tutoring.
I have taught Early Childhood Education since 2000 to 2002 at Angel Academy Preschool. Later, I worked with children through the Y.M.C.A of Port Huron, Michigan and Lenawee County, Michigan. I helped school age children with homework in the afternoons and during the day taught preschool. While attending junior College I tutored students struggling with math. After graduating college I began substitute teaching in Michigan for elementary school children. I became a mother in 2011 and stayed home with my children for a few years, and then went back to substituting. In 2016, I earned my certification in Missouri and have worked with preschool age and elementary age children for the past 4.5 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent of two school-aged children I have had the oppurtunity to learn about the newest teaching methods employed by teachers at this time. We often work together on math and science. My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education.
