I prefer to let the student explain what they understand and then identify what they are struggling with in order to avoid wasting time covering issues that they are proficient in to ensure that the student gets the most out of the time.
I have completed over 22 years of school, including 3 degrees. Along the way, I have been required to take multiple standardized tests in order to achieve admission into both the schools and my profession and have perfected the skills of preparing for and taking standardized tests. I have worked with friends in helping them identify their strengths and the focus of the exam in order to formulate a study plan to make the most efficient use of study time. After graduating from Vanderbilt University I taught 5th grade for 2 years while working on my Master's at TSU. I then moved to the Knoxville area and taught K until my son was born in 2000. We then moved to Wisconsin where I taught in various after school programs until my 2 children were old enough for preschool. I then went back part time and taught 4 K until my 3rd child was born in 2005. Throughout this entire time I tutored various children ages 8 - 15 years if age.
My teaching style can best be described as varied! I believe that children learn in numerous ways, so as an educator it is my responsibility to provide multiple experiences - visual, oral, tactile, etc. A person walking by my classroom would see children smiling, working in groups, accomplishing projects, and would hear noise.

I feel that I can relate to children because I am also a child at heart. I believe in constant verbal quizzing and repitition as a means to develop the child's ability to retain knowledge and call it forth at will. I have learned from past work experiences that all people learn differently be it either visual, kinetic (hands-on), or verbal (by listening).
