First we get to know each other. Often I can create examples to illustrate problems based on the student's interests and experience. If you had any trouble on a recent test or homework assignment, we can begin by reviewing any problems you might have had on those. I will show you why the correct answers are right, and why the wrong answers are wrong. I am an excellent listener, and I always find a way to make the lessons fun.

More About This Tutor...

At the start of my college career, I began tutoring for Calculus. I received an offer from a Professor at Lafayette who had heard about me. She and her husband had two children who were accellerated two years above their classmates. I tutored both children once or twice a week in both of their respective mathematics courses as well.
I love working with people, especially children. I have been a Crew Trainer at each job I've had because of my ability to relate, connect and teach others. I am very patient and easy-going. One thing I like to identify is my learner's personality so that way I may cater my teaching style to that of his/her needs. Connecting with the individual and making them feel as thought they can do, and keeping this attitude, is key to helping the student grow. Having a positive academic effect on the students' lives is what I strive to achieve.

I loved working with the students in the Mission Acceptance program. I worked as a team leader, so I had the opportunity to work with a group of fellow mentors as well as students, which provided me experience with a variety of different students. I learned that each student has his or her own path to understanding the material and needs to be approached in a unique way. I find that in order to bring out the best in each student, one must understand how he or she receives information and plan accordingly.
I earned my BS in physics and spent over a year working on medical device research. As an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh I spent some time in the Physics Undergraduate Lab helping students in the introductory courses. I also spent time as a Team Leader for Mission Acceptance, a program that pairs successful college students with local high school students and provid ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I learn visually and like to teach that way. I believe there is a great deal of concepts and memorization in Chemistry. I am not able to memorize all of the subject and would not ask a student to. Instead, explanation and demonstration of the concept, followed by memorization of the rule grants a greater understanding. The rule can then be applied to other areas and is worth much more than a large volume of memorized information. This is possibly more true in the fields of Math and Physics, learning rules and concepts goes a long way. I prefer to patiently explain, draw, or demonstrate the concept at hand then work on problems that further illustrate that concept.
I Studied chemistry at the University of Wyoming. During my years there I helped tutor many friends and friends of friends in the subjects of Chemistry, Math and Physics. Also, I worked as a lifeguard and used my ... read more

I have always had a keen interest in mathematics and science. I pursued a degree in physics because the subject fascinated me, but since then I have discovered that a career in pure science was not for me. I started tutoring at a computerized learning center in Chicago while still attending school. Here, I taught k-8 students English, mathematics, and social studies. After that, I moved back to the Philadelphia area, and I have been teaching primarily SAT and high-school level mathematics (from algebra I through Calculus), as well as Physics, Chemistry, and some English.
One of the primary reasons that I decided to study physics in college was the inspiration of my high school physics teacher. He projected an infectious enthusiasm and love for the subject he was teaching. In the same way, I strive to demonstrate not only the power and usefulness of mathematics, but also its inheren ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Mathematics is a joy and privilege to teach students because of its extensive relationship to the world and connection to everyday life. I believe that you need to relate to a child’s prior knowledge in order to gain an understanding of future material. I value a child’s discovery of a topic and act as a guide in my students learning. I challenge my students to think critically but also acknowledge their need to learn differently. One benefit of mathematics is the ability to teach a topic various ways so that all children can succeed. Using manipulative, visuals and technology my students can master material in a way that is meaningful to their learning style.
I have always been intrigued by mathematics especially it’s connection and explanations for various fields of science. By teaching my students the foundations of math I have grown to enjoy and appreciate it even more. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a high school Physics teacher for the last 15 years, I believe I have developed the content knowledge and pedagogical strategies to be an effective teacher and tutor for all math and science courses. With my engineering background, I believe I have a strong handle on the integrated applications of mathematics and can offer students many real-life examples and applications particularly from the Pre-Calculus and Calculus courses they have taken. My school district and department entrusted me with the top students in our district to teach AP Physics C(Calculus-based) for five years. My students' excellent performance on the AP Physics C national exam and their subsequent success in college in rigorous majors is a track record I am very proud of. I believe I could offer this same level of instructional efficacy to your students.
