I like to start tutoring students by determining what the student's strengths and weaknesses are and building a strategy from there. When a student doesn't understand a new concept, I like to go through every step of the process with them to figure out where the stumbling block is, using a variety of ways to explain the concept to assess which strategy works best for each student. I prefer to use the Socratic method when teaching. It allows me to interact with my students, giving them autonomy and a sense of worth. I am sensible to their ideas -no matter how far fetched they may be at times- and always supportive in their approaches.
