In my instruction I apply research-based strategies, theories, new techniques, and modern methods of instruction. I put a lot of thought and work in to creating my lesson plans. This can be seen in the detail that I provide on each plan. I pay careful consideration to connecting the lesson to the GLEs and EALRs and I summarize each lesson in great detail. I received a teaching certificate in college through an internship in Buenos Aires where I taught English. At the University of Virginia, I tutored international graduate students. I worked with elementary children who had reading and behavioral difficulties through a volunteer program. I have tutored many children in French. I lived in France during high school, and have since then dedicated myself to languages. I received a BA in comparative literature which is a study of French and Spanish literature.
I believe languages are full of life. Although grammar is important and necessary, it should not be stale. I prefer to use the Socratic method when teaching. It allows me to interact with my students, giving them autonomy and a sense of worth. I am sensible to their ideas -no matter how far fetched they may be at times- and always supportive in their approaches. Also, I do not hesitate to incorporate technology in the classroom, as this medium has become a very popular and powerful instrument of teaching and learning over the years when properly applied. It is certainly true that, often, a picture is worth a thousand words. In summary, I would like to think that I am more of a facilitator to my students than anything else.
