Trigonometry is one of my top subjects!

I am currently a tutor at tutor.com, an online tutoring company. I like the work because I can work from home. However, I also like in-person interaction that one-on-one tutoring allows. That is why I mix up my online tutoring with in-person tutoring. I am proficient in tutoring various levels and topics in math.

A Little Bit About Me...

I developed my passion for teaching others from a a pre-college program I was in called Upward Bound. I learned study skills, time management and other skills that helped me excel in college. After college graduation,i obtained a tutoring position with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.I served as a mentor as well guiding them through the difficulties of high school and applying for college and financial aid. My next position was for Admission Possible. Admission Possible is a non profit organization whose main purpose is to get low income students into college. I held after school workshops where I taught them how to apply for scholarships, write high quality essays and how to put together a good resume.
I believe the best way for students to learn is by doing and discovering the material hands on as oppose to being lectured to. I like to instruct demonstrate the learning mater ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While getting an Associates degree in Math, I tutored college math, algebra, physics, chemistry, & calculus. The subject I like to tutor the most is differential calculus. One young lady I tutored named Glenda Lenahan, having made an F on her first calculus test, requested that I tutor her. When she took the second test she mad a 98. I jokingly asked her what she missed! May 27, 2011, my job was eliminated. I had been helping my son with his calculus and physics and found that I still remembered much of what I knew before. So, why not tutor again!
For the subjects I tutor, my style is 'pushing a pencil'. Only a genius can handle these subjects without doing problems. Everyone else, if they want to learn the subject must do problems. Usually the problems worked are the ones with answers in the back of the book. I'm caref ... read more

I love teaching in a hands on style in which the student not only has an algorithm of how to solve a specific problem, but has a thorough understanding of the concepts behind the algorithm. I enjoy having analogies or hands-on activities to demonstrate the concepts. I believe that many times people understand the basic concepts from physics in their daily life, but are frightened by equations. Using analogies or hands-on examples initially reinforces their knowledge and increases their confidence which decreases the fear of equations. Besides reduces fear, it improves their ability to share complex concepts with others in simpler terms.
As a graduate of bachelor and currently a master’s candidate of a biomedical engineering program, I’ve taken courses in various departments: math, physics, engineering, and biology. One of the most important skills I learned was piecing together th ... read more

I graduated with a biology degree, but have a great understanding of all sciences and maths. In addition, I am successful in completing research papers, lab reports, and creative writing tasks. While in school, I managed to complete my own work and help others gain knowledge of the given topic. Now, as a graduate and stay-at-home mother, I have began tutoring. I strongly believe in the importance of all learning experiences.
I truly enjoy working with children, teenagers, and adults. I know that every person is unique, so I try to learn some things about my client before developing a teaching plan that will lead to academic success.

I have moved from just someone with a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics to someone developing and molding the way individuals interact with their everyday surroundings.
For someone who had difficulties learning growing up, I find that good work and determination just does not always cut it. I always encourage my students to ask as many questions as they need to so that they have a firm understanding of the material. I love seeing the growth in the individual student. Obtaining a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering has exposed me to advanced courses of Math and Science, two subjects which have always fascinated me. I have pursued and achieved excellence in these areas all through my school years and my post graduation career as an industrial engineer has only advanced my knowledge in these areas. English language has been a strong interest of mine since an early age and I have actively cultivated that interest. My reading, writing and grammatical skills have only improved over the years with all the reports, theses and presentations that I had prepared during the course of my education. I have previous and current experience of tutoring students in Math, English and Science.
As a recipient of higher levels of education, I know the career opportunities that such an education opens up later in life. And I am motivated to share my knowledge an ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I obtained a strong liberal arts education where I was able to experience and learn about a wide range of academic topics. However, I have a strong focus and specialization in the sciences with a BA in both Biology and Chemistry with a Mathematics minor. Math and science has been a strong area of mine, as I was a Supplemental Instructor for a genetics course for two semesters, as well as being a Laboratory Assistant that assisted students with questions or problems during genetics laboratory. I took a course entitled "Teaching Evolution" in which students developed their own teaching styles, specifically based in the scientific disciplines.
I believe that the most effective teacher is one who guides the students to finding the correct answers. Instead of simply giving out answers, a teacher should encourage students and help them along the process for them to find out the solutions ... read more

I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience with the young and old alike. It is my belief that learning is a life experience that never ends. Every day, we all learn something new from our parents, teachers, neighbors, friends, co-workers and even sometimes strangers. I consider myself a patient and understanding person who is easy to communicate with. Students possess various levels of comprehension, attention span and learning methods. While some may prefer examples and analogies others maybe resort to memorization and relating to experiences. Being fully aware of this, I am able to adapt to each and every student's individual learning style and accommodate them in whatever aspect necessary.
