Dedication is paramount to academic and personal success!

Passionate, interactive, and Efficient. My philosophy for teaching is simple. There are two kinds of students: Those who are willing to word hard and make sacrafices to be an excellent student and those who simply won't be good students. I offer no shortcuts or cheat sheets. Dedication is paramount to not only academic success, but personal success as well. I accept any and all challenges.

Making A Difference

In May 2012, I received my bachelors degree in English with a Literature Emphasis and a minor in Writing. I graduated with a 3.6 g.p.a. (Cum Laude Honors.) Throughout college, I took various education courses that focused on educational philosophy and physiology, elementary and secondary concentrations, and students with disabilities. I was able to obtain 36 education credits and in 2009, I was admitted into the school of education at my university where I was able to engage in student teachings, researchers, and observations. In 2011, I participated in the student outreach program where I would visit elementary, middle, and high schools to tutor them in English, Math, or Science and guide them through the learning process. From 2007 to 2012, I was part of the writing gym at school where I would help fellow students with their papers and tutor them about his/her grammar and writing struc ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a holder of two Journalism degrees I have been through the extensive rigors of college and know what it takes to get assignments done properly and haned in on time. I feel that the experience of having just been in college would help benefit any college student seeking help in certain areas of their education. Having two journalism degrees has taught me the grammatical skills to write for numerous media outlets, while also being able to proofread and edit as well. Having worked for the Boys & Girls Club in Janesville, I would work with elementary and high school kids with their homework on a daily basis, covering every primary subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recipient of higher levels of education, I know the career opportunities that such an education opens up later in life. And I am motivated to share my knowledge and inspire others to access those opportunities as well. The first thing I do is to determine the level of learning that a student is open to and start there. That helps me to adjust my teaching according to the needs of the students. I am a patient teacher and I allow the students to reach their potential through gentle guidance.
Obtaining a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering has exposed me to advanced courses of Math and Science, two subjects which have always fascinated me. Free and unconstrained autobiographical writing is one of the best ways to coax a student insecure about his or her writing skills into putting into words intense experiences from their own life. I tell my students to just tell me in their own words what they are trying to say. When they speak aloud, the words flow, and then I say, "There is your opening sentence right there. Quick! Write it down." At other times, I ask them to pretend that they are really someone else, an actor in a television show, for example, and I have them imagine that the character, not they themselves, are speaking. This releases the student to let go of inhibitions and let the film roll "for the character" and then they stop focusing on themselves.
