I am very flexible with my communication style, and can easily and quickly assess and tailor my teaching style with whomever I am teaching. I like thinking of sharing knowledge as a mutual endeavor, and less like a one way street. I have a very flexible approach to teaching and am able to adapt to each student's unique learning style. I am familiar with ‘constructivist’ learning and have successfully applied this approach in the classroom with various strategies designed to assist all students in maximizing their learning. I encourage students to actively participate in their own learning, rather than being passive recipients. Students who are disengaged can become engaged when they are in a positive, supportive environment, where their own individual learning style is catered for. I am devoted to the Socratic method. Teaching with leading questions allows my students to formulate within their own minds the connections necessary to grasp the concepts we are addressing. There is no greater joy than seeing the light in a student's eyes when he or she makes that crucial crossover from external facts to internal understanding. Also, I am firmly convinced that education is a social process in which both teacher and student participate, and from which both learn. Working with a motivated student is invigorating to me.
