When teaching, I speak with my students about the kinds of activities they feel assist them most in retaining information as well as observing their learning style independently. I do my best to include activities that incorporate visual, kinesthetic, and oral learners. School isn’t always fun and interesting; it is called “work” for a reason. I recieved a percussion perfromance degree form Eastern Washington University in 1992, since then I have been teaching private music lessons (percussion and begining piano)as well as teaching some high school music programs. I also have many years experience in performing all percussion instruments. I love teaching all different ages. I have a passion for working with children and adults. My approach to teaching is a positive one providing lots of encouragement and positve reinforcement. Upon moving to Wa. and being certified here, I taught in several schools in differing cultural settings untill recently starting my own business in Newport. I integrate as many subjects as possible and seek to provide the missing schema, background experience and knowledge, that is critical to learning to a true state of understanding and mastery. Every subject is interesting to a child who can understand it and apply it. Through an understanding of social styles, learning styles,multiple intelligences and the best of brain-based research, I provide that experience to every student.
