A Little Bit About Me...

I have aided many of my friends throughout high school and college with writing, editing and general English knowledge. In addition to helping many of my friends and classmates I also edited countless pages of my own work in a great variety of subjects. I graduated Cum Laude with a degree in English after taking courses in various fields on the subject. I received high marks in class ranging from general rhetoric to creative writing, as well analytical literature courses.
I attempt to not only show students when a mistake has been made but teach them how to better avoid those mistakes in the future, as well as teaching them to better catch their own mistakes.

I have tutored for Acers tutoring in Orlando for a full year. I have full experience with teaching reading and writing, as well as somer lower level algebra and mathematic skills. The kids have ranged from ages 8-14. As well, I have been giving guitar lessons to kids between the ages of 10-14. The children have all been able to pick up quickly, and being a song writer, I encourage the kids to seek full creativity in their music and learning. In college, I've spent my time volunteering with the youth group, and helping mentor kids in the middle school age. Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

I have worked at Kumon Learning Center as a primary instructor for over a year, and have had ample experience in working with children of all ages in math and reading (teaching them the basic pronunciation of various letter sounds and words and basic mathematical concepts). I have always had an inclination to teach. To me, there is something very exciting about conveying understanding of a concept to another person. I think I have a particular ability for identifying precisely what aspect of a problem a student does not understand and then elucidating that point. My teaching style would be best described as creative and improvisational. Because I work with students from such varied backgrounds, I believe that the best method is one that allows for flexibility and at the same time incorporates lessons from several fields at once. For example, in both my GED and ESOL courses I incorporate music into my lesson plans. I find that music is an excellent avenue to explore contemporary topics that can then lead to essay topics. At the same time, song lyrics are poetry and can be studied as such.

I tutored children from the neighborhood so often, I decided to get paid for it. I received my Bachelor degree in Anthropology and my "lifetime" teaching credential (any self contained) from California. When I retired, I discovered I still wanted to teach.
