A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved to teach – even as a child in front of a tiny blackboard in my living room, playing school with my sister. Since then, I have continuously sought opportunities to teach outside of my daily school and work life. As an undergraduate at Middlebury College, I volunteered to teach beginning German at a local elementary school. After college, I taught seventh-grade Faith Formation at my church and also led monthly, 3-hour Confirmation preparation classes. The key to a good teaching style is creativity and adaptability. It is the job of the teacher to adjust his teaching style to fit the needs of the student. Some students respond well to visual cues; such as drawings in the case of teaching English as a Second Language. Others will respond to verbal instruction and still others will respond best to written instruction. The key is to determine what style best suits the student. Observation and questions are the best way to find out which approach works best.
