A Little Bit About Me...

I am a tenured teacher at a local public high school. I have a BA in Education, MA in Gifted Education, and an MA in Educational Administration. I currently jold a Career Teaching Certificate for Mathematics grades 5-12. I taught 6th grade mathematics for 4 years, and the past two I have been teaching Algebra I courses.
I have a variety of teaching techniques that I use on a daily basis in my classroom. Although, I am not certified in elementary I work well with the younger kids as well. I am easy going and enthusiastic.

A Little Bit About Me...

Some students remember best what they see, some what they hear, but nearly all will best recall material that they see hear say and do something with. My teaching style is one that tries to incorporate seeing, hearing, saying, and doing and getting students to use higher order thinking skills as much as I can. More than just rote memory and recall, I want then to be able to apply acquired knowledge to solve problems or create new ideas based on their previous learning.
I have worked in both the public and private school settings and have 20 years teaching experience. A Little Bit About Me...

My first teaching experience was as a high school senior where I was given the opportunity to teach a small group of 5th graders as part of the Missouri A+ program. We began with division, quickly moving into linear and nonlinear algebra, before touching on the fundamentals of complex numbers, graph theory and trigonometry, before concluding with a derivation of the quadratic formula and its applications. I spent three semesters as the academic chair for my fraternity enforcing study hours for fraternity brothers with lower GPA’s; tutoring students in algebra, calculus, physics, and computer science, among other fields. I fit my teaching style to the student's learning style. I try to follow the model of my physics advisor, who has an excellent ability to figure out how a student learns best, then adapt his teaching and explanations accordingly. Students are often closer to understanding than they realize, and a different presentation can make a huge difference. I work to improve weak areas and capitalize on strengths for each student. I keep things relaxed, but focused; and I make sure to work through the material with my students, moving on when they are ready. A Little Bit About Me...

Most of my teaching experience has come through the various assistantships I had at Wheaton College. These involved a wide range of tasks, from tutoring to leading discussions to conducting extensive research. I have been able to sharpen the skills I developed as an undergraduate through my studies and teaching opportunities at Notre Dame.
