When I was in school, I could always understand or figure out what the teacher was trying to get across. Some students, however, didn’t always understand what was being explained. I was the kid who would rephrase the teacher’s remarks and explain it again in a way that the other students could understand. Not all students understand things in the same way. I try to find a way to explain things so the material is more interesting and less frustrating than it is when the teacher explains it. I love the “ah-hah moments” when you realize the student just got it. I am easy going; and kids have an easy time talking with me.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher with dyslexia I felt that I was unable to teach reading to my students. I went in search of more training and found Alphabetic Phonics a Orton Gillingham program. I have sense used what I learn in the almost 160 hours of training with 11 students and seen progress in all of them.
I love working with children and helping fulfill their potential. I like at children as water that must be directed in the right direction. I will do this my trying to find research validated methods of teaching that teaching to all the learning styles. If the child does not learn the first time I will try again and again until they have got it.

I have a very opening tutoring style and try to specify the techniques to the students desires and needs. Students, I think, benefit from a understanding a variety of angles when approaching a problem, and typically, one of them will stick. Being younger, and just out of school, I also feel like I can easily relate to students. I generally have an idea of things which may make subject more relevant or exciting for a younger generation.

Since graduating from University of Modena (Italy) with a BS in Biology, and during my Ph.D at University of Siena (Italy) I have been developing my career in the research field. I have gained superior scientific knowledge from working at Italian National Institute of Health during four years of my PhD program in the field of developmental biology, publishing many scientific papers during that time. After my PhD, in 2006, I decided to grow scientifically and joined Hematech (a pharmaceutical company located in Sioux Falls) as a Postdoc (Junior Scientist) to work to elucidate the mechinism that drives nuclear reprogramming of somatic cells into embryonic cells.
