A Little Bit About Me...

As an Early Childhood Education major, I have had over 300 practicum hours of experience in different classroom settings ranging from preschool aged children to third grade. I have also had two months experience of student teaching in a kindergarten and preschool age classroom. I have had many experiences working with children in both daycare's, school settings and volunteer programs. In addition to these hands on experience, I have had over 100 credit hours of courses discussing, experiencing and reading about different techniques in how to teach children. As a Junior in college I made the decision to become a teacher. The decision was based on the observation that a majority of teachers are over worked and don't have the time to provide the individual attention some students require. I performed my student teaching at a small school called Central Heights. I taught Physical Education- grades K-8, Physical Education-Freshman Boys, and 3rd Grade-all subjects. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience includes 14.5 years as a mom tutoring my own children, two semesters of field observation in Elementary School and High School Math, and AAS degree in Accounting from DMACC in 2002, and currently earning (2011) my BS degree in Elementary Education with a Math endorsement at Simpson College.
My teaching style is a mix of traditional and progressive. Traditional because I believe students need a solid foundation of core knowledge to prepare them for future learning. Progressive, because I believe facts should not only be taught in bits and pieces, but should be put into a meaningful context that the student can understand.
