I am firm but like to use students life experiences and hobbies to teach them subjects. Younger students I like to teach through play due to the fact that I am a firm believer that children learn through play. I have been studying education since my high school graduation in hopes of one day being the choir director at my high school.At the moment I am a student at UTEP studying bilingual elementary education and plan to receive a masters in music education after receiving my bachelors degree. I am currently a subsitute teacher and am hoping to continue helping students with their studies in the summer and weekends. I got my first teaching experience as a lab instructor for undergraduate physics labs and fell in love with the profession. The best part of the experience is seeing the student grasp a concept that they felt out of reach. I enjoy coming up with inventive ways of communicating the difficult portions of math and science. Most of my students benefited from my teaching style which includes many examples and encourages a dialogue approach to difficult concepts. As a non-traditional student I recognize the necessity to create a level of confidence that inspires a student to continue their education with success. I graduated in 1999 from NMSU with a degree in Elem/Spec Education. While attending school, I worked in a group home for troubled teens and at a facility for adults with disabilities. But my desire to teach children led me to tutoring at a private non-profit school for K-12. I worked there two years before starting to work at a facility for troubled youth. I worked there for one term before they closed down, and then started working with treatment foster care children through Mesilla Valley Hospital, a facility for children and adults with mental disorders. Last year I returned to school to get my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Recently I retired, but am continuing to work on completing my degree. I love working with students and teaching languages. I use the communicative approach so that students can hear and learn to understand the language they are learning;By using facial expressions, gestures and other non-verbal cues, I facilitate student comprehension of the target language; I use kinesthetic exercises requiring students to move their bodies to help them acquire the language. In addition to a textbook, I also use songs, skits and chants. Students make visuals such as booklets, menus, posters, etc..., with graphics to help them internalize the language.
