I have taught private music lessons since 2006. My primary instrument is piano. I have tutored English, Math and Science for the last 3 years. My students have achieved fantastic results. Although I do not teach to tests or scores of any kind, but only to the needs I see in the student, I have been amazed at how quickly t it reflects on their scores, and more importantly, on their self-confidence and motivation. I have been studying education since my high school graduation in hopes of one day being the choir director at my high school.At the moment I am a student at UTEP studying bilingual elementary education and plan to receive a masters in music education after receiving my bachelors degree. I am currently a subsitute teacher and am hoping to continue helping students with their studies in the summer and weekends. In my schooland work experience I have worked with children of all grade levels and all subjects. I am firm but like to use students life experiences and hobbies to teach them subjects. I have always loved children and work hard to make a difference in their lives. Children are very diverse learners and I believe, as teachers, we need to discover the key to what really motivates them. Every child can become successful if they are given the appropriate tools and the opportunity to learn in a way that is specific to their learning abilities. My theory of teaching is through the use of constructivism, a theory asserting that children learn by gradually making sense of their world based on a combination of their background knowledge and what they experience. I also use scaffolding, modeling, and inquiry-based teaching. I am dedicated to helping each child achieve their greatest potential. I graduated in 1999 from NMSU with a degree in Elem/Spec Education. While attending school, I worked in a group home for troubled teens and at a facility for adults with disabilities.

Teaching is a very rewarding experience. I especially like to see when my students progress to a higher level. I believe all children can learn but they often have different learning styles. As a teacher, I varied my teaching style to match a student's learning style. I like to do discovery labs and give the students a little information about the lab and they would create the lab. Students are very creative when given the opportunity and motivation to be creative. At the end of a class, I would like my students as they leave the classroom to think that they learned something new and also had fun. For the time that I spent teaching, my experience included working in a newly established school in Saipan where I was involved with a class that had different age levels, such as third, fourth, seventh and eighth. This allowed me the opportunity to learn to work with various age levels as well as different nationalities. Also, I spent time working for the Las Cruces Public School System in which I was able to labor with teachers who had students with learning disabilities, plus regular elementary age kids. This occasion allowed me to appreciate the hard work the teachers put into the students and understand how hard it can be, yet to persevere no matter what may happen, since any little improvement is an encouragement to them. When I was placed in a Third Grade classroom in the Fall of 1979 for my student teaching experience, I knew then where I belonged. This was my final semester at the University and I was taking two classes to finish my requirements to graduate in December. Working with that age of child was exactly what I wanted to do. After graduation, I obtained a job working in Special Ed. as an aide. The experience was enough to get my foot in the door. The next Fall I began teaching in a Third Grade classroom. Until I retired in 2004, I continued to teach Third as well as Second Grade with two years at the Sixth Grade level. Above my original degree I did succeed at adding 45 hours of additional classes, with no Masters Degree aquired.
