I'm a fifth-teen year old, currently enrolled at Thomas J. Corcoran High School, where I am a sophomore I currently take IB classes and wanted to start tutoring to pass the time and pick up a little extra cash. I'm drug free and have never tasted alcohol. I try to be patient and usually am. I'd prefer to work with children still in elementary or middle school, seeing as I haven't learned everything yet. I know the basic and more to just about everything eighth grade and below. The plan is to start a Master's Degree in applied statistics at Syracuse University in the fall of 2013. My comments on tutoring Math : Math is a matter of understanding a few simple rules and applying them in different situations, which is an important skill no matter which grade you're in! I can help you understand concepts and practice math skills to improve your grasp of math and raise your grades!

For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! In addition to reading music, I would focus on performance techniques and theory as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from high school, I was unsure what exactly I wanted to do. I began working as a counselor/activities director for a summer recreational program in 2004 which allowed me to realize that working with kids is what I want to do. As I entered my first year of college, it became clear that math was my forte. After putting two and two together, I realized that teaching mathematics was what I wanted to pursue.
