Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My comments on tutoring Writing : Elementary

I believe every student has their own style of learing. I am very much a visual learner and utilize this style. Many students, though, are tactile learners and/or find their attention is kept using computers. I love discovering what type of learner each child is. During my last year of undergraduate studies, I took a position tutoring autistic students in an afterschool program and also as a one on one habilitation specialist as part of their residential program. In the years to come I kept finding myself drawn back to education, even though that was never my original plan. I follow Gardner's Theory of Learning Styles, students do not learn in the same way, as a tutor you must look for the approach that is right for the student. Also, working with at risk students, who have experienced failure in traditonal school settings, an educator must work on the negative beliefs of the student, including that the student sees themselves as "dumb" and " not able to learn."
