A Little Bit About Me...

I've always had a love of learning, and have naturally slipped into an informal tutor role with friends. During high school I took several AP tests and at the same time earned the International Baccalaureate diploma, so I understand very well the pressures involved. My two bachelor's degrees (Computer Science & Engineering) give me a strong foundation in math and science. I have experience as a teaching assistant for undergraduates. In addition, for several summers I participated as a volunteer in my public library's reading program, working one-on-one with children of all ages. I believe there is a major difference between teaching the student how to get a good grade and mastering the fundamental concepts that control math and science. When helping a student with Algebra, it is critical to asses their basic skills in mathematical operations. With chemistry, physics and biology it is often a matter of increasing the student’s vocabulary and understanding of the complex terminology and relationships presented by the teacher and the classroom book. My teaching style is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the student and then build a solid foundation of basic skills.
