I am a 2012 college graduate with extensive experience working with grade school and middle school students. As a summer trip leader and Outward Bound instructor I have gained skills in incenting students to learn and succeed. My education at Millton Academy and Gettysburg College ingrained knowledge of essential reading, math and social science subjects, and I enjoy helping children learn. I have worked most of my adult life in education or journalism, and I was able to combine my two passions as a journalism professor at the college level for several years. I am currently a visiting lecturer in media studies at Bridgewater State College and a substitute teacher in local schools. I have taught social studies, business and typing in secondary schools. I'm patient and listen to the student to see what they get and don't get about the premise of the lesson. Then we get to it. Careful reinforcement of the Correct method will ensure Remembrance and Results. Also, Lessons must be approached within the context of the Big Picture. Students need to realize that there are no pointless or forgettable sections. Basically, communication is key followed by practice, reinforcement, more practice. Learning can be at pace, but laziness and whining will not be tolerated. I have a Bachelor of Art in History, predominantly American. I also pursued Engineering for my first year and plan to go back to College. I have completed through Calculus II and am also experienced in hands-on mechanical. I have limited tutoring experience, but I know I can listen and respond. Any experience came from helping others in classes during College.
