Prior to homeschooling my six children, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Schriner's Burn Institute in Boston, and then at Darmouth College Medical School in Hanover, NH. My science and laboratory background from UVM was beneficial to my success in these labs. I have now spent to past 18 years homeschooling my children. The three oldest have graduated high school with complete NY state requirements. They have all tested in the 700's in Verbal SAT and high 600's for Math. I feel qualified to tutor most Elementary subjects, as well as advanced Math, Biology, and Chemistry.
I try to involve as many senses as I can when illustrating new concepts and ideas. Math manipulatives are essential elements for early math comprehension. After graduating from high school as valedictorian, I earned a Zoology BS and a Studio Art BA from SUNY Oswego, successfully completing English composition, speech, visual arts, biology, zoology, chemistry, Spanish, and calculus II courses, and graduated with a 3.76 GPA. Prior, I had taken and earned over a 90% in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and AP calculus. While completing an MFA from WCSU, I began 3 years of service as a tutor with NY GEAR UP of The Research Foundation of SUNY, providing academic assistance to students, grades 9-12th in core and non-core subjects, as well as Regents, SAT, and ACT exam prep. In the last 2 years, I have taught art for levels EC-8th and created a teen development program with daily tutoring.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love and respect all children and try to meet them where they are. I am very perceptive at times and don't give up easy. If one thing doesn't work, I'd try another. I believe in good education that develops the person, not just prepare them to contribute to society and to make a living.
Along with 7 other students, I was directly hired out of college to teach 7th grade English. Along with my 4 years of Latin experience, it increased my abilities in the grammatical aspect of the English language. I also tutored college students while I was attending in first yr Latin and math. I took 4 yrs of French in high school, graduated Shenendehowa in 1974. I enjoy working with kids in small groups or one on one. I am a mother of 11 children, the youngest is now 7. I also believe I could assist a first year algebra student or younger.
