A Little Bit About Me...

I am an elementary school teacher in the Northern Virginia area and have been tutoring students for the past 2 years. I love my job and would not change it for the world. Working with kids every day is something that I not only enjoy, but helps me as well. I learn something new every day. Being a teacher has taught me that all students learn in a different way and you have to address the needs of individual children.
Different children learn in different ways. Some are visual learners, some are auditory learners and some are kinesthetic learners. I like teaching in whatever way best connects with the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to work with children of all ages and genders. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities as well as children of all ages, races, and genders. I attempt to make learning as fun and relevant to the child as possible as every child has varying levels of understanding and concentrations. I am extremely patient and can handle anything. I like to relate learning to childrens' lives (make it about basketball if the boy likes basketball, or about chocolate if the girl likes chocolate).
I was a peer tutor in high school for English and Spanish. I also tutored children in Hebrew at a local temple. In addition, I volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged children in Chicago in all areas: Spelling, Reading, Writing, Math, Language, etc. for grades K-8.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am university biomedical research employee and teach a biochemistry credit recovery program for high school students on the weekend. My teaching style is very hands on. I like to work the problems out with the students and show them how to do each step. I love questions and I love for the student to fully understand. I want the student to fully comprehend what they are doing. If not, they will never be able to do it without me there. Confidence is key and that can be achieved through repetition and a full understanding.
As a college student, I wanted to help other struggling students as well as polish my own skills. I decided that tutoring students would be a great job to earn money and achieve some personal goals. In addition, I played college sports so my students were other athletes. I have tutored students in math, accounting, finance, English, and various other business classes.

I thoroughly enjoy helping students learn and watching students succeed. Complex subjects such as chemistry can be overwhelming to some students and I believe that the best way to teach these subjects is to give the student a firm understanding of the whole concept and then concentrate on the specifics. Finding a way to relate a concept to a student is key. I find that just having someone there to explain a concept in a way that is easy to understand can change a student's whole perspective on a particular subject or discipline.
I am a recent graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. I also competed in Division I athletics while pursuing my degree and I have enjoyed successes in both athletics and academics. For the past year I have been tutoring students in chemistry and mathematics.
