While at Springfield College I started tutoring some of my fellow students in the areas of math and science for a little extra cash. I have always wanted to mimic the kind of tutoring I received as a struggling math student in middle school. I was never the best at math until I started to receive tutoring and everything started to click. My comments on tutoring Algebra I : Received an A in all Algebra classes, including Honors Algebra in high school, College Algebra (taken in high school, and again in 2003 while attending Millikin). I received a special honor on a project in my high school College Algebra class. I have tutored junior high and high school students in algebra, and also tutored for junior high algebra within the Decatur Public School District while working as a Teaching Assistant at Johns Hill Magnet School.

I am a visceral teacher. I like to use illustrations whenever possible, videos, photographs, drawings... I like making connections to things that may seem unrelated - I think this strengthens neuro-pathways and thought processes. I also think that laughter stimulates learning, so I like students to feel at ease - I will make myself look dumb if it will make someone laugh and relax.
I am a natural teacher - it's what I do when I'm not getting paid. I just like to share knowledge of what, why, when, where, and how. A Little Bit About Me...

I have never officially taught, but I have been told by my peers that they believe I would have some skill at it. Mostly, my teaching style would involve working through problems or homework step by step with a student at first, and then once they gain more confidence, allowing them to do more work on their own. Like learning to ride a bike, I believe that almost anything can be taught this way. I would hope to use as much visual aid as possible, and I really enjoy doing hands-on things when a subject calls for it. A Little Bit About Me...

I found working with young minds in different Early Childhood agencies is one reason for earning my Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.
