I have worked for the past 13 years in accounting and management positions. I started in the Master of Education in the Teaching Arts at Mississippi College this past January and recieved by Class A Teacher's License in June of this year. I am certified to teach grades 4-8 in all four of the major subjects: math, science, social studies and language. I am also certified to teach grades 7-12 in the social studies area: US History, government, geography, and world history. I am also highly qualified to teach accounting and business because of the number of accounting and business classes that I have taken.

To help students learn, I use direct instruction by teaching specific words and indirect instruction such as exposing students to lots of new words and having them read a lot. I also use indirect instruction to help students develop an appreciation for words and experience enjoyment for reading. I am also experienced in the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts(ELA) for 3-8th Grade. I have provided basic reading sill, reading fluency, vocabulary and phonic instruction for struggling readers in grades 3rd-8th. I have taught in the public school system for thirty-four years. I have taught Special Education students. I have taught on the elementary, middle and high school levels. I have taught the Mississippi State Curriculum and is presently teaching the Common Core State Standards for Math and English Language Arts.

During high school and junior college I worked as an office assistant for a trucking company. Upon completion of my two year degree I worked briefly for an accountant before furthering my education at Mississippi College. While at Mississippi College, I had an internship at another trucking company that lasted almost two years. I completed my MBA online and maintained a 3.9 GPA while working at a temporary position. I currently work in retail sales at the Outlets of Vicksburg.

I believe the first step in academic success is building self esteem and confidence. Learning should be engaging and fun. My students come to enjoy learning and gaining confidence as they grow and become better readers. I have taught first through third grades for many years. Most of my experience is with elementary students. I now work with principals and teachers across the state to improve classroom instruction. I have also worked specifically with third graders to prepare them for the State Test. Each summer I am involved with the Read to Succeed camp where I work with students who have not passed the third grade end of the year test. The students retake the test after our camp and the vast majority pass and are promoted to the fourth grade. My schedule is very flexible.

I have over 18 years helping students academically. In the Jackson Public School District I initiated an after school tutorial program to help student who were falling behind in reading math and language arts. As the Accelerated Reading Assistant in the library I was able to use the program to help students to progressively become fluent readers. From this experience starting in 2002-2005 I began offering offer tutorial services to parents on weekend which many accepted for a small fee.
