A Little Bit About Me...

In high school I went up to A.P. Spanish and would often tutor or help my classmates and younger students in lower level Spanish. I also tutored one young man in Great Bridge until he just lost interest and his mother didn't want to pay for tutoring for a class he didn't like. I also have a four year old daughter to whom I speak Spanish to and have taught basic Spanish to. I currently hold a BA in Spanish with a minor in Secondary Education. Through my experience at O.D.U. My teaching style reflects my belief that anyone can learn and understand a concept if the proper nurturing and practice is applied. I realize, from tutoring different age groups, that patience, consideration, and respect are all factors in how well a person can grasp the material. In general, my approach is to go over a math problem step by step, at a pace the student can handle, and then once the student's confidence is up, allow them to tackle the problem. Over the past five years I have worked as a Teacher/Instructor both the the legal field and in the public school setting with students diagnosed as ED and LD as well as being displaced from the normal public school setting. Even though my academic degrees are in the legal field I have stayed current in areas of Reading and Math from Basic Algebra to Geometry.
I believe that a student who lacks the basic fundamental skills in reading and mathematics will struggle to stay focused in class and continually be disruptive and ultimately stop attending school.
