I believe effective learning can occur in a 1-on-1 tutoring situation when the tutor and the student can communicate well. Tone, mood, and setting all come into play. A tutor who is relaxed, cheerful, encouraging, and resolutely intelligent is more likely to be approachable and someone the student will collaborate with successfully. I believe in active listening and working together to establish a method of studying.
I took high school and college seriously. After college I worked for several years before attending law school. After law school I decided to combine my legal experience with hands-on medical skills, and I enrolled in a Registered Nurse program at SUNY Delhi, which I will complete next May. I believe that students best learn by being allowed to make mistakes. Instead of providing students with answers, I give them a challenge and guide them to discover the answers. I am patient throughout this process and encouraging as students grapple with new ideas. My goal is to motivate students to want to learn and to see the value in discovery.
