A Little Bit About Me...

I am patient and easy going. I believe that a person has to learn at a pace that is comfortable for them, and frankly sometimes a classroom setting does not meet their individual needs. Everyone can learn, and be successful once they know what works for them.
While in college I earned a GPA of 3.239. I received an associates in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting. I also distinguished myself by being on the dean's list for four consecutive semesters. I was also a peer tutor, working for the college. In the workplace I wound up being the first person in the history of the company (Biddeford Textile Corporation) to hold two management positions at the same time. I trained and supervised many fellow employees in operation of computer hardware and software.

I love teaching and interacting with all students, although my preference is junior high and high school as I have helped out in these areas before. I love to help students who are struggling and help them achieve success which they had not thought was possible. I believe in determination and hard work and will teach my students these values in addition to commitment and work enjoyment. My goal is not just to help achieve success in students academics but also in all areas of their lives.
For three years at Geneva College (2007-2010) I served as a math tutor, tutoring underprivileged, unmotivated, underachieving students at the local high school. Although I loved mentoring the young adults, unfortunately because of relocation back to Maine I was unable to continue the job. I love to work with students one-on-one from topic selection to final editing. Making the right decisions early in the writing process is critical to the paper’s success, and I have many classroom-tested tools and techniques to help students make the right decisions. My goal is leave each student with the skills they need to succeed in writing –not just a particular paper but any writing assignment they may face.
After earning my BA and PhD in English, I spent many years in industry as an engineer, quality manager, project manager, and technical writer. I have taught a wide range of subjects in college classrooms, from astronomy to information literacy and composition to professional writing. I am currently on the faculty at two colleges here in Maine and I serve as an editor for several academic and industry publications.
