I have recently graduated from East Carolina University, where I received bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-6. At ECU, I had the opportunity to work with students in several different grades including; kindergarten, third, fourth, and sixth. I worked and taught kindergarten for a year during my internship. Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects!

I have taught all aspects of literacy since 2003. This includes reading, writing, grammar, phonics, spelling, and handwriting. I was an Early Literacy teacher for two years and a Title I teacher for three years. In addition, I have taught preschool children and middle school children. My last three years of teaching directly were in a second grade classroom. I have abundant experience in assessing reading skills and abilities and determining students' reading levels.
I try to include fun in every lesson. Playing games, creating rhymes or chants to remember mechanical rules helps students to move forward in their skills. Consistency with generous praise so that students feel success creates readers.
