I have taught for Utah State University for five years- Business Calculus and College Algebra as an Undergraduate. While working toward my master’s degree at Potsdam, I taught a year-long graduate math course on Algebraic Number Theory which was well-attended by my peers and professors. Before I became a teacher in Philadelphia, I tutored in a private tutoring agency in Florida (where I was working on my undergraduate degree). That was my first experience with tutoring and I loved it. I liked being able to give individual attention to a student after he or she had spent all day in the classroom. I feel like if I can put together a lesson that gives children a motivation to learn, they will learn on a deeper level than if I am merely telling them information. With my middle school math students whom I tutored, this meant that we learned about fractions through art. It was not enough to explain to them how fractions worked, I realized that they needed to experience fractions.
