A Little Bit About Me...

Having been devoted to the welfare of children and families and valuing education highly throughout my life, I find tutoring a satisfying occupation. After vounteering my services for many years, I attained formal degrees in education, psychology, and counseling, with very high GPAs. I taught psychology and sociology for several years and have also tutored K-college individually and in groups for many years.
Recognizing that each person has his/her own learning style, I emphasize "application" of material learned. I do this primarily by providing examples of information taught and require my students to do the same. My approach to teaching is to create a friendly environment with positive expectations to enhance the learning experience.

I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Accounting and BS in Chemistry, which has enabled me to gain knowledge in many areas of math and science. I prefer special needs students because I enjoy finding what works for a learner and working around their preferences - and special needs children will often tell you, directly or not, their learning style. However, this is not to say it is difficult for me to teach children without special needs. As a NOAA Corps Officer, I helped teach new personnel many facets of our day-to-day operations, from instructing new officers on getting their Officer of the Deck qualifications to preparing new survey techs for their hydrographer-in-charge qualification, and new deck hands assigned to my watch how to drive the ship and steer accurate survey lines. At Embry-Riddle, I often tutored friends and classmates, since I had a more advanced background than most of my peers.
