I Make Less Mess and More Message Out of Math

I listen intently to what students ask to decipher their level of understanding. I wish for the students to truely understand and not merely mimic. Math is thinking. Too often I see people who at first are struggling with math treating it as a mimicing subject. Some repetitive practice is needed, but understanding prior to the repetition is better.
I have been teaching since I started college. I taught in the tutoring center at SIUE as a freshman. Since then I have taught a wide variety of classes at Lewis and Clark Community College and St. Louis Community College. I also have had students that I have tutored for many years until they moved off to college. Even then I sometimes was called for tutoring when they were back home. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Columbia University with a BA in English and political science and spent the four years following graduation working on the communications team for Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York City. In that capacity I supervised a staff of five full time employees and a variable number of interns. That experience was helpful in terms of learning to teach and mentoring college-age and post-college individuals. A Little Bit About Me...

As a senior civil engineering student at Washington University, I have received an outstanding education, especially in math and science. I will graduate in May with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. In the fall, I will pursue a master's degree in civil engineering.
