I have taught for four years from Kindergarten to Third Grade. I was responsible for teaching math, reading, english language arts, social studies, science, phonics, and handwriting. Besides teaching at the Elementary level, I was the Gifted Coordinator for students in grades Kindergarten to 12th. As a tutor, my job is to take students from where they are to where they need to be. I can do this successfully for several reasons. First, I am patient. Often student frustration stems from classes proceeding too fast, and teachers lacking time to help slower learners. By patiently working with a student, I can teach at a pace that works best for them, overcoming much discouragement that comes from falling behind. Second, I am very flexible in my teaching methods. A Little Bit About Me...

The single most important thing about being a teacher or mentor is to be respectful, socially aware, and sensitive. Okay, that's three things, but they kind of go together. The second most important thing about being a mentor is to create understanding about the underlying principle of whatever it is he or she is learning about. Once you understand the underlying principle, the "how to" stuff becomes a *lot* easier to understand and remember. On the other hand, a person who's trying to learn the "how to" stuff without understanding the underlying principles is likely to forget key things, to be tripped up when an unexpected question arises, and to get into other trouble.

I have completed my Master's at SUNY Fredonia in Literacy I: Birth to Grade 6. I have been a substitute teacher in the past for one year. I taught grades Pre-K to Grade 12. At this time I am a full-time Pre-Kindergarten teacher at a Catholic school in Dunkirk, NY.
