I also encourage students to enrich their writing by reading as often as possible. Young people who take writing seriously are preparing for a successful college career. Post-secondary students who learn to write effectively are more employable than those who view writing as a technical obstacle. One of the most common complaints I hear about college graduates in the workplace is that they cannot write clearly and get to the point. Because I have substituted at all grade levels and with all ability levels, I know how different each and every student learns. It is important to first get to know the individual and ascertain what techniques will work best for them. Mutual respect is very important. A major key to learning success is confidence. If you show the student respect, they will have more confidence in themselves. Children have a way of giving adults exactly what they think the adult wants or expects. If you expect the student to succeed they will be more apt to work toward that goal.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with children. There is nothing better to me then seeing a student discover something new and being excited to learn. I am a new teacher and my goal will be to include several hands-on experiences in my classroom. Part of my philosophy is to give students choice when it comes to producing a product.
