My passion for education blossomed while volunteering as a tutor with Somali refugee children in Pittsburgh, PA during college. I worked with families in their homes to develop English reading, writing, and speaking skills. After graduating with a B.A. in History and Political Science I joined Teach For America, where I taught first grade for two years and substitute taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade for one year. Creative, innovative, and interesting lessons are my forte. I am experienced in providing a constructivist-based approach to knowledge acquisition. Hands-on lesson promote student involvement and increase the development of student responsibility towards their education. I have found that a cross-curriculum approach to the material being presented fosters true understanding and relevance.
I am a student of history and believe that knowledge acquisition comes from interest and enthusiasm on the part of the learner. My life has been filled with teaching and working with children. At the age of ninteen as a very young mother I felt a sense of duty in teaching my children how to achive higher than they can ever have imagined. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style conforms to the learning style of the individual. Since no two people learn the same it is impossible to tutor the same way. I feel that once I have found a way to spark their interest and how they learn, it is much easier to help them acheive their goals and grasp the material.
