My personal style of learning is to learn by doing. I get my students involved in any process and get them to actually do the work so they learn it from experience, not just reading about it and taking for granted they know what is going on. Seeing the steps in action and seeing the final result brings a sense of accomplishment, which helps a student learn the correct way of doing whatever it is they are trying to learn.

I served both as a tutor at the Center of Teaching and Learning (CTL) and as an academic peer advisor for the college of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama. At the university, i gave lectures in science courses including chemistry, physics, and mathematics. I know when a student is confused or bored and i know how to change the teaching style to keep them focused. I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games. I believe it's really the responsibility of the tutor to understand the student's learning style and adjust the teaching to fit the learning style.
