As a special ed. teacher I find that many of my students have experienced failure and it is my job to show them that they can learn and be successful. I have been teaching many years. I had a desire to teach many ages. As a teacher I desired to teach many subjects. Also I have done after school tutoring for several years. Computers are interesting to me. What I like best is the many things that can be done in after school lessons. I enjoy working on projects with students. Books are always useful. Reading constantly is important. Math consists of both knowing facts and doing math. My name is Mary Ann. Education has been interesting. I use very much praise with students. Materials I use are varied. Books are often used. I ask students what they want to do. As a part of after school lessons I check on what students absolutely should do to meet requirements. Contact is made with other people to inform them of progress if needed.

I meet this qualification because I have had the opportunity of working with a diverse background of all type of students ranging from gang affiliation, developmentally delayed, emotional disturbed, attention deficit disorder, and incarcerated students. I have served in the position as an Autism Teacher, Paraeducator (Behavioral Management), Substitute teacher, Special Education and Regular Education. I also am currently a Chaplain Eagle with the Los Angeles County Probation Department. I have volunteered in this program since 2003 and worked with incarcerated juveniles from a spiritual perspective as well as academically. Within all of these positions I understood the background of what type of students I am working with and I would go meet with them outside of the classroom in their assigned probation camp dorms after school hours, so that I could get to know them as an individual

As a 3.88 GPA graduate, I was very driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have earned a BS in sociology minor psychology and MS in Human Services organizational Management and Leadership, which has enabled me to gain understanding in many areas of science and math. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays in many various areas of study. During the last 2 years I have tutored students in mathematics and sciences. My teaching style is more of a Facilitator/Personal Model/Expert. Emphasizes personal nature of teaching-learning relationship; asks questions, explores options with learners; and focuses on Collaborative, Participant, Independent.
