My experiences during and after college have been crucial to realizing my skill and joy in tutoring and teaching. I was fortunate enough to attend a small, liberal arts college which allowed me to constantly experience small group learning environments. Every child has his/her own learning style. I think it is important to first determine how each child best learns – either visual, auditory, or tactile. I can then tailor my instruction to the needs of each student. In general, I believe that people learn best by ‘doing’. My philosophy is that education should be as individualized as possible because people do not learn in the same manner. For instance, some people are visual learners while others, like myself, are auditory learners. I strongly believe that educators should expose their students to as many fields and ideas as possible.
