Although drill may be appropriate for some skills, my preference is project or problem based methods that draw on the learner's experiences and interests. I work from students' current skill levels, provide challenging problems, model successful learning skills, encourage students' to express creativity and intuition, and employ formative and normative assessments. Over the past ten years I have been a student (BS), an engineer, a teacher, and a student again (MS, PhD). My interests in education have led me from the high-need classrooms on Chicago's West side to Vanderbilt's Peabody campus to engage a PhD program in educational policy.
