I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. My teaching experience ranges from serving as a special education itinerant teacher (SEIT) for young children with special needs to teaching high school English. I am certified in PreK-6 elementary education, English, and special education. While I spent the majority of my teaching career bolstering language skills, specifically reading comprehension and writing, I also taught algebra and biology to high school students as a resource room teacher. I believe that education should present as much material to the student as possible, which includes using various textbooks, lecture, and inquiry. After that, it will be up to the student to assess and construct the information given in order to form his/her own opinion about the subject matter. True education and learning is ownership of the subject matter which comes through effort and discipline and a little bit of guidance.
Since April 2007, I have been a substitute teacher at both the Watkins Glen High School and Middle School. Frequent subjects include English, Psychology, and Physical Education. I tutored high school, middle school and elementary school students. I also worked in the BOCES classrooms as a teacher's aide. I worked at BOCES for 3 years.
