I have tutored several students in Calculus 1, algebra and geometry. I helped several students with their placement exams in math for colleges. I worked at Inver Hills Community college tutoring center tutoring Math and Science. Being a Dyslexic that worked my way through an engineering degree. I know how important teaching and learning style is. I am also working towards becoming a Barton Certified Tutor for Dyslexia.
My teaching style is hands on. I get to know the student I am tutoring, figure out why they are struggling and create a plan specific to their needs.

Hidden Talents Tutoring

My tutoring style focuses on understanding concepts, not simply getting the right answers. This emphasis improves retention and helps students apply their knowledge to new problems. I teach a variety of memorization techniques, but if the student understands a process or formula, memorization is often unnecessary. Whenever possible, I use hands-on exercises, manipulatives, and exploration to help students visualize abstract concepts and discover principles for themselves. Calculus I is one of my top subjects!

I am a sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis studying biomedical engineering. I am a former Princeton Review ACT Teacher. This job taught me how to use the Socratic method to help students discover how to solve problems on their own. I used this experience as an ACT teacher to perfect my tutoring skills. Motivation, learning style, and goal structure are components I consider when setting up a lesson. As a computer programmer, I tend to be task oriented. I like to break a project into smaller chunks with clear boundaries.
