I love teaching and working with anyone who wants to learn to play and instrument or any aspect of music especially kids. While helping them learn it is important to let then have fun, challenge them just enough for them to make consistent progress and encourage them to join ensembles or even start a band on their own. I've been a musician for 30 years, recording, performing, touring, producing and composing. The City Pages chose me as it's 'Jazz Musician of The Year' in 2004 and I have been awarded McKnight and Jerome fellowships. I did not start playing the saxophone (my main instrument) until my 21st birthday. I then practiced a lot and have a very clear idea of how to learn and teach.

I believe in a teaching style that reflects a student's learning style. Whether they learn best by hearing, seeing, or doing it is important to cater to the student. My teaching style works around this philosphy and tends to be a combination of all 3 styles. Although I have recently graduated with a degree in business, I am interested in pursuing a career involving people. My previous employment was a sales position that was very customer-oriented. I also have 3 years of experience helping children by teaching swimming lessons. Assisting my 15-year-old sister with her school work is also a regular activity.

The position obviously requires excellent written communications skills. Having recently completed an AAS degree in Information Systems Management, with a focus in Network Administration and Network Security/Computer Forensics, one of the comments frequently received from my instructors was in reference to my technical writing skills. The recent AAS degree required extensive submission of APA-style formatted academic papers, so I have a high comfort level and significant experience base in that area. I have always felt that my written communications skills were a very marketable asset, and I am hoping that your firm will find that to be true. Throughout my studies at a liberal arts College I gained a great diversity of knowledge and skills in many different subject areas. During my second year as a Religious Studies major, I began tutoring both native and ESL college students in Philosophy, theology, and a number of upper-level religious studies courses, many of which were writing-intensive. I am currently a graduate student working toward a Master's of Theology degree, and am working as a tutor for the on-campus Writing Center.
