Social Studies and Creative Writing (English)

I like to challenge people to think outside of the box. Although I know it is important to know how to take tests and write papers appropriately, I also know that showing skills that go above and beyond, is what makes a student stand out. I will challenge your mind but in a way that will help to see the bigger picture out of the details, and will also help to shape you into a well-rounded, thoughtful individual.
I am currently a Sociology student at Augsburg College. I am also pursuing a minor in Psychology. This year will be my last, so I will graduate in 2014. Also, I have taken several creative writing courses at the Loft Literary center, as well as at my College. I received a 4.0 in my courses. My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have already written hundreds of poem/ prose so I know how to incorporate the elements of poetry. Would have to talk to the individual to see what they wanted me to teach however to be able to tell if I would be the right teacher for the individual.

I focus on concepts and foundations compared to facts/dates/lines of moves.
Chess- played 10 years, u1700 chess champion, tied for first for three years for top high school female player at State. Taught classes to groups (k-5) for 3 years as well as individuals for many. History- I plan to be a high school or college world history teacher. experience is a minor in history after next semester and my lifelong passion for history.

My teaching style highlights each student's strengths in the particular area in need of tutoring. By doing this, the student gains confidence in the material more and more by knowing that while they may struggle in part in a certain area, there are also multiple areas of strength to focus on to increase academic confidence. Some students need more of an independent approach to learning with the opportunity to verbalize their thought process and questions in a safe environment not always offered in a classroom setting. I also student taught junior high language arts. I received numerous teacher of the week recognition when I taught after school art classes.
