My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I am currently working with a Dyslexic 2nd grader, with great success!

I assess the student's level of mastery by listening to parents, communicating with the student (in whatever appropriate way needed) and then doing some basic testing. Once the student is assessed, I design a learning environment and activities that coincide with the student's specific strengths, while adding some elements of challenge. I tend to work in a very focused way for 10-15 minutes, and then add in tactile activities (like Bannana Grams for example) for 10 minutes or so, in order to maintain the student's attention. Children and youth who are struggling to read and write get patient assistance to learn the words correctly. My work will improve writing techniques (including essays and basic writing skills), reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and literary creativity. Make school work.

Not all students are successful and the trick is to identify the reasons behind the lack of success. The issues that students have with school are diverse; procrastination, lack of organization, failure to plan, lack of awareness, ineffective habits, learning disabilities, and differences are all possible explanations for school failure. I work with students one on one to help them pinpoint where things break down for them and then work with them to find strategies to help them manage the skills and material they are asked to learn and master.
