A Little Bit About Me...

After completing my biology and chemistry degree, I volunteered for 18 months in impoverished areas in California. Following this I decided to start teaching. While at Utah State University I completed both a Masters program and a second undergraduate program simultaneously. I am currently licensed to teach high school science. I have worked instructing and proctoring college biology, chemistry, and anatomy laboratories.
My teaching style is highly student focused. Instead of providing only textbook reading and writing my classroom focuses on having the students work hands on to create models of the systems they are learning so they can develop their own unde ... read more

I believe that once a student can enjoy the process of learning they can begin to internalize the good study habits required for academic success. I use a constructivist teaching method and often use Socratic teaching as a means to have students thinking independently about their work. I am also interested in learning how each student learns so as to get the best results. I believe I'm a natural teacher, enthusiastic, intelligent, and an unusual memory for detail. I enjoy creating interesting contexts for students to learn from, and the intuition to know when a student is making progress. Each student deserves a teacher’s very best, and I intend to know the needs of each student well and prepare myself for maximum efficiency.
I have worked as a teacher on the Big Island, and spent over ten years as a volunteer trainer at public access television facilities in New York and Texas. I ... read more
