I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no excuse for not trying very hard in school because the main path to success as a young adult is a high school diploma with excellent grades. People who've seen me teach describe me as relaxed, focused, and funny. For better or worse (I like to think better), I believe in age appropriate humor as part of an overall teaching philosophy. I also tend to be lively. But the bottom line is that we all understand our goals and reach them. When I walk into a classroom or even a solo session, I want to know what the student(s) needs are. I believe in teaching to the goals and then even exceeding them. At the same time, I'm not rigid at all. There are many ways to hit the target. Students come in all shapes, sizes, and moods.
