Since I remember my days as a student, I am very patient with students who’ve never been exposed to certain subjects or materials. I believe you can only move onto more complex areas after you have gained a thorough understanding of the basics. I prefer to use real-world examples to illustrate abstract concepts. In areas like mathematics and physics, I teach students methods of how to solve problems, not just to come up with the right answer. These methods can then be used in other disciplines or applied to their later lives.
I have a BS in Physics, Magna Cum Laude, and I specialized in astrophysics. For many years, education has been one of my top priorities. I graduated salutatorian of my high school class and summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. In high school, I tutored in a local elementary school, focusing on developing students' grammar and composition skills. While in college, I tutored chemistry, biology, physics and math courses up to graduate levels.
While tutoring at my college, I received specialized training on identifying and adjusting to different learning styles. I use this knowledge to tailor each session to the needs of the individual student. To track progress, I like to set both short-term and long-term goals and create manageable steps toward reaching these goals. I also think it is important to teach students to establish general study skills so that they can make their own study plans for future courses.
