The first thing I do with any new student is identify his or her learning style so that I may incorporate those specific strategies into my lesson for an effective and personalized learning experience. My lessons are very interactive, and a main aspect is to nurture critical thinking. After setting up a situation, I will pose problems for the student to solve. Critical thinking is necessary in order to navigate foreign grammar and truly understand the material.

I also took some courses in the Education Department, and substitute taught for public high schools and middle schools in Winston-Salem, NC and Metairie, LA. I was born to teach. From 10 years old I would teach my friends during summer vacations or whenever I could get them to play my favorite game, school, (Kids don't play school anymore). I enjoy helping students make the connections. I use a teaching approach that is hands on and generally seeks to find atudents learning style. At Birmingham-Southern College, I was the News Editor for the college newspaper for two years. In addition, I have a minor in Journalism. I love to write and I feel that this is one of my strong points. I also tutor two young girls every Wednesday afternoon at Girls, Inc. of Central Alabama. I help them with everything from writing, to reading, to math and history. I am also working on my Masters Degree and will graduate with a Masters Degree in Counseling in 2011.
Before I start tuoring a child, I like to get know them first. I think it's important to build trust with a child before jumping in and telling them what to do. A child will be more likely to accept help from someone they know rather than a total stanger. I like to make learning fun.
