A Little Bit About Me...

I have helped children prepare for preschool through games and activities, and community college students brainstorm ideas for transfer essays. I am very organized, responsible and trustworthy. I have worked at a Montessori preschool and am comfortable using hands-on, creative methods for learning. Each student is different and learning approaches need to reflect that. I have worked with sensory-sensitive preschoolers, mentally challenged high school students, and ESL students ranging in age from 3 to 40. Whether they needed to learn how to tie their shoes, write an essay, the parts of an atom, how to use a conjunction, why the slope of a line is important, or how to write their name, I was there to help.

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1984. My subjects of passion were math and science and I enjoy working with children who struggle in those areas. I have home schooled my son through the end of 12th grade and he was ready for college freshman classes at age 15. Starting in his second grade year, we were joined by a student who has learning disabilities. He also thrived in the tutorial teaching environment. My desire is to work with children who really desire to learn but need that extra time and encouragement to succeed.
I have experience working with both audio/visual learners and a kinesthetic/tactile learner. The kinesthetic/tactile learner had learning disabilities akin to ADD, but still did very well in the small group environment. I believe learning should be fun regardless of one’s age and I will strive to make reading a fun as possible for each child I tutor. Reading for pleasure or to successfully complete a variety of assignments is very important to academic achievement and certainly enhances our personal lives. I believe all children can learn but they do so at different speeds and preferred methods. Constant encouragement and achievable goals help children reach their potential. I am patient and persistent and would help your child continue to improve his or her reading skills.
