My comments on tutoring Reading : I have taught Reading for thirty years in various grades from Kindergarten to sixth grade.

I use a combination of both online games and Websites and hands-on manipulatives. First, I like for the student to take multiple intelligence tests and then I know how best to help the student. The information I gain from the analysis is extremely informative. It tells me where the students' strengths lie such as some students are musically inclined, some are visual learners, auditory learners, some are mathematicians and various other styles. Then, the style that they learn through the best is how I would teach the student; this is based on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence. Second, meeting the standards are essential in today's education system. The four C's of the 21st century is also necessary for students' to learn. They are collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.

My teaching style is to draw connections to what the students are trying to learn with what is happening today that they might be interested. When I am able I like to show them where the event happened [if it is history] so that the student does not just hear names and dates but can picture it in their head.
As someone who loves history I discovered my passion for helping others understand history. Because of this love I pursued a degree in museum studies. I have over 6 years experience in volunteering my time at history museums in order to educate today's youth about the past.

A Little Bit About Me...

As I stated above, I am really comfortable working one-on-one with students. I feel that we can get to know each other, I can learn the way the student best learns, and where his problems lie. I feel the student can develop trust and confidence both in me and himself in this type of situation which may help to carry over into a regular classroom. It is important to learn how the student best comprehends, and proceed from there.
I graduated from Mansfield University with a BS degree in Elementary Education with honors.
